My greatest joy in life is being a wife and best friend to my husband, Larry, and a Mom to my three children. My twin sons, Coby and Cory, are part of Dude Perfect http://www.dudeperfect.com – a trick shot basketball team on YouTube. My daughter is an illustrator through her business http://www.marrymeinspring.com and serves as a Resident with The Austin Stone at For the City.
Larry and I serve at the Austin Stone Community Church. We direct the Austin Stone Institute. Our passion is to lead the next generation to know and love God, to love His Gospel and to live on mission.
Luke 12:48 says “And from everyone who has been given much shall much be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.” God has given us much. A precious marriage, incredible children who love God and 30 years of experience in ministry. I know that God expects much of us – I don’t feel a burden about this – just a responsibility to be faithful with the incredible gifts God has given us.
I am learning more and more that it is all about Jesus. He is the answer to every question, He is the solution to every problem, He is the hope for every hopeless situation. If there is a need – He will meet it. If there is sickness – He will eventually heal it. If there is death – we will live with Him in eternity forever. I am learning that all of life is answered in the person of Jesus. He is the only reason to live – and He is our hope in death.
At this season of my life, I believe God wants me to pour out what He has shown me. I want to encourage other women to trust Him with their lives and their marriages, their families and their ministries. Because He is faithful. I am not. I will mess up. I will fail. The Gospel gives me the assurance that He has forgiven me and I stand holy and blameless before Him. (Ephesians 1:1-14) I pray that something I share in The Cotton House will point other women to Him – to the truth of His Gospel and what He did through His Son, Jesus Christ.
I will be sharing things He is teaching me through His Word, what I am learning through my family and ministry. I pray it is an encouragement to you to walk faithfully with Him through your whole life.
One life to give. Make it count to glorify Him alone. I want to know at the end of my life that I ran the race that God had for me – that I “finished the course”. Life is short. It goes by so quickly. I want to know that I completed the task He had for me to do.
“I glorified Thee on the earth, having accomplished the work which Thou has given Me to do.” These are Jesus’ words in John 17. He accomplished the work that God had for Him to do while on earth. He did it perfectly. I want to be doing the work that He has given me to do – and I want to glorify Him. Will I do it perfectly? NO! But I have a passion to run the race and finish the course to the best of my ability. And leave the results to God.
Life on Mission
Whatever your role is in life, you are called to live on Mission. My role includes being married to a man in ministry. I will be sharing what that looks like at home, work and in life!
Our calling is unique – and precious. I believe it is a high calling. It is not without struggles and trials – but it is worth it! I pray what I write will encourage you to persevere and to live out the calling God has on your life.
I believe God created each of us to be unique, fascinating, complex individuals with passions, dreams and desires to do something specific in this world to glorify Him. As we walk in this calling – we will live purposeful, fulfilled, gratifying, meaningful lives. Ephesians 2:10 says “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”
Supremacy of the Name
There are over 250 names for Jesus in the Bible. I found these names in the concordance of my Bible years ago and was in awe of the vastness of who He is. I have always wanted to create ornaments with the Names of Christ for Christmas. Recently my daughter found unique bells from India that we could use. I paint the names of Christ on them and use them at Christmas. But this Christmas I realized that I didn’t know what each name meant – so I have been choosing a name each day to study. I can honestly say that I have come to know Jesus in a deeper way by studying more about who He is through His names. My favorite is Indescribable Gift – because there is no way to fully describe Him! I hope that you will stand in awe with me as we look at who Jesus is through His names. Every Name points to the Gospel and why He came to earth. I am amazed every time I study one of His names.
Life at Home
Our home is an extension of our ministry – and I pray that anyone who enters will experience the peace and presence of Jesus in our home. For some reason, I love white. I think it brings peace and calmness into a hectic and busy lifestyle. I love to create and I love family. I will be sharing what we are doing at home and what God is teaching us there.
